Born in Cairo, Egypt 1952, Prof . Salwa Nassar had her schooling at Saint Clares College ( a Fransiscan Sisters school), Heliopolis, Cairo, and received her B.Sc. from the Faculty of Engineering , Ain Shams University in 1973. She was offered her M.Sc. from the Faculty of Engineering , Cairo University in Computer Networks. She spent one year at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh , Scotland , UK working on the practical part of the
Ph. D. , after which she was offered the Ph.D. degree in 1984 from the Faculty of Engineering , Cairo University.

Her main fields of research interest are: Parallel processing, Parallel Logic languages, Modeling & Simulation of parallel programs, Distributed Systems, Computer Networks, Parallel Applications, Parallel Virtual Machine, Cluster &Grid Computing and cloud computing. She has been leading a Grid & High Performance Technologies research team at the Electronics Research Institute since she has been a Ph.D. holder. Prof. Nassar has supervised 20 M.Sc. Degrees and 10 Ph. Degrees. She has been the Principal Investigator PI in more than 10 EU funded projects & USA_ Egypt joint funded projects and acted as a member in more than 10 projects. She is considered one of the first scientists that worked in the field of Parallel processing & distributed systems in Egypt and the first that implemented and had research activities in the Grid computing technologies in Egypt. Prof. Nassar became a Full Prof. in 1996. During her career , she represented Egypt in more than one forum as a specialized researcher. She has excellent
research links with more than one university in the USA & universities & research institutes in all over Europe .Prof. Nassar has started an EU information Point InP in Egypt to assist and advise Egyptian Scientists in proposal writing and submission to the FP7 program at the EU for funding. Prof. Nassar is acting now as the Head of the Computer & Systems Department at the Electronics Research Institute. She is also supervising the Blue Gene Team at the National Authority for Remote Sensing & Space Sciences.
